The first person to circumnavigate the globe on behalf of Spain during the early 16th century was Ferdinand Magellan. His expedition, which began in 1519, sought a westward route to the Spice Islands. Despite facing numerous challenges, including treacherous waters and crew mutinies, Magellan's voyage ultimately proved that the Earth could be circumnavigated. Although he did not survive the journey, his expedition provided valuable insights into global geography and initiated a new era of exploration.
