Thurgood Marshall was the leading civil rights attorney known for fighting against segregation laws in the United States. As the chief counsel for the NAACP, he successfully argued the landmark case Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, which declared racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional. His advocacy laid the groundwork for the Civil Rights Movement and later resulted in his appointment as the first African American Supreme Court Justice.
