The UPSC Mains examination consists of nine papers. Out of these, two papers are qualifying, while the remaining seven are counted for the final ranking. The qualifying papers include one in any Indian language listed in the Eighth Schedule and the other in English. The other seven papers focus on various aspects like general studies, optional subjects, and Essay, which collectively assess a candidate's overall knowledge and aptitude.
