The UPSC was established in the year 1926 as the Imperial Service Commission, which later evolved into the Union Public Service Commission. The Commission was formed to manage the recruitment process for civil services in British India. Post-independence, the UPSC was reconstituted under Article 315 of the Constitution of India. Over the years, it has become a premier institution responsible for conducting examinations and selecting candidates for various civil services roles, ensuring that meritocracy and fairness govern the recruitment process across India’s administrative machinery.
