UPSC conducts three levels of examination for civil services: the Preliminary, the Mains, and the Interview. The Preliminary examination is objective type and serves as a screening test. Candidates who qualify then proceed to the Mains, which consists of descriptive type questions, assessing in-depth knowledge and analytical abilities. Finally, the Interview, or Personality Test, evaluates the candidate’s interpersonal skills, confidence, and suitability for civil services. Each level is critical in selecting qualified candidates for various administrative roles in the Indian government.
