The largest species of dolphin is the orca, also known as the killer whale (Orcinus orca). Orcas can reach lengths of up to 32 feet (9.8 meters) and weigh as much as 11 tons. Although they are technically classified as dolphins, orcas belong to the family Delphinidae. They are known for their striking black and white coloration and high intelligence. Orcas inhabit oceans worldwide and are known for their complex social structures and diverse hunting techniques, often hunting in pods. Their size and unique social behaviors set them apart as one of the ocean's top predators.
