The main difference between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes lies in their underlying causes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system attacks insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, resulting in little or no insulin production. Conversely, Type 2 diabetes typically arises from insulin resistance, where the body does not effectively use insulin, often linked to obesity and lifestyle factors.
