The Treaty of Paris, signed in 1763, marked the end of the French and Indian War, which was part of the larger Seven Years' War. Under the terms of the treaty, France ceded significant territories in North America to Britain, including Canada and all lands east of the Mississippi River. Spain, which had entered the war on the side of France, ceded Florida to Britain but gained Louisiana territory from France. This treaty drastically altered the balance of power in North America and set the stage for colonial tensions between Britain and its American colonies, ultimately leading to the American Revolution.
