The primary cause of the Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864) stemmed from social discontent and the widespread dissatisfaction with the Qing Dynasty. Influenced by Christian teachings, Hong Xiuquan, the leader of the rebellion, sought to establish a "Heavenly Kingdom of Great Peace," promoting social reforms, the abolition of private property, and gender equality. Economic hardship stemming from poverty, famine, and government corruption, coupled with the influx of foreign influence, exacerbated tensions among various social classes. The rebellion became one of the deadliest conflicts in history, resulting in millions of casualties and significant weakening of the Qing Dynasty.
