The phenomenon that explains the disruption of light waves as they pass through a prism is called refraction. This optical effect occurs because light travels at different speeds in different mediums. When light enters the prism, it bends due to a change in speed, resulting in the spectrum of colors we can observe. The degree of bending depends on the wavelength of the light, causing shorter wavelengths (blue) to refract more than longer wavelengths (red).
